Shai's Shaliach Update: Connecting Israel to Charleston in March 2019

You can find our Community Shaliach (Israel Emmissary), Shai Bibas, all across Greater Charleston working with our local partners to bring Israeli culture to our community.

 
 
 
 
 
 
 
Highlights for March:
  • Shai wil be speaking about science and technology as part of KKBE's Lifelong Learing Adult Eduacatoin program.  

  • Sha will be starting a series of 3 sessions about Jewish identity for the Religous School. He is also doing a pprogram about the elections for the COSY teens. kids.

  • At the College of Charleston AND the Citadel, Shai is doing a three-part series about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

  • Also at CofC Hillel, he is presenting a program about the upcoming Israeli elections, including a panel with 2 other emissaries from the southeast region. He will also do a program with the Israeli film Beneath The Helmet followed by the students interviewing Shai about his military service.

  • Through Partnership 2Gether, Shai and his felllow shilchim from the Southeast consortium are going on a tour to 5 communities to facilitate programming. Here in Charleston, they will be doing a program about the upcoming Israeli elections on Monday, March 4th at the Black Magic Cafe on James Island at 7 pm.

  • Shai will continue to create weekly programs for both Middle and High School Jewish life groups at Porter Gaud. 

We are also excited to announce Charleston's Teen Leadership Committee. A collaboration of CJF's Israel Engagement Initiative and BBYO, the committee consists of 6 teens representing our synagogues and high schools. Their mission is to develop and implement programming for their peers. Coming up:

  • March 16th: Israeli movie night and discussion

  • April 7th: Volunteering at the Lowcountry Food Bank
