Purchase Unique Art From Charleston's Sister Region in Israel, Hadera-Eiron

Thanks to the Jewish Agency for Israel's Partnership 2Gether program*, Charleston is one of ten Southeastern cities that is proud to have a home away from home in the Hadera-Eiron region in Israel! Over the past few years, Charleston residents have been making meaningful connections with Israelis in Hadera, from educational bridges between teachers and schools, opportunities for teens, connections with our Young Adult Division, and more.

Enter The Psalms Exhibit, a Cultural Exchange program that creates yet another way to join members of the communities around a particular point of interest - art, culture, and Jewish text. The Psalms Exhibit brought artists from the Southeastern United States and Israel together to study, create and meet in Israel to exhibit their work. Building from prior artist projects, this new phase included hevruta (pairs of two) style text study, related to the Psalms in our Jewish liturgy. Each pair of artists then collaborated on an art piece based on the study theme, and included a statement about the artist’s Jewish identity as it relates to the text.

In October, the exhibit  will begin traveling around our sister cities here in the United States, starting its journey in Chattanooga, TN and ending in November 2017 in Jacksonville, FL, with stops in cities such as Pinellas, Nashville, Fort Myers, and Charlotte along the way.

While Charleston artists did not participate in this particular project, (we hope to the next time around), the art is for sale. You can view it here.

If you are an artist that would like to be notified when the next Cultural Exchange project begins, contact Rebecca Engel.

*The Jewish Agency's Partnership2gether Peoplehood Platform has become the paradigm for successfully partnering global Jewish communities directly with Israeli communities. P2G connects 450 Jewish and Israeli communities in 46 city-to-city and region-to-region Partnerships, engaging more than 350,000 participants each year in meaningful ongoing connections between Israelis and Jews around the world, through unique programs and one-on-one encounters.
