Announcing PJ Library Get Together Grants

PJ Library® Helps Families Raising Jewish Children in Charleston, Dorchester and Berkeley Counties Make Connections and Celebrate Jewish Life

$150 Get Together grants help build social connections and empower parents to offer Jewish experiences to share with their friends and other families

Charleston PJ Library provides families raising Jewish children free monthly subscriptions to Jewish books and music. This program is working like none other to successfully engage local families. Last year, nearly 4,000 books were distributed to local children between the ages of 6 months and 8 years. Currently, more than 365 local children are receiving the gift of books each month – and this number keeps growing!

Now, PJ families will have more opportunities to connect with one another and participate in Jewish life, thanks to the PJ Library Get Together grants program. Charleston is among a select group of PJ Library communities in the US and Canada chosen to participate in this opportunity that will give local families up to $150 to create their own experiences to get together with friends.

Get Together grants are designed to help build social connections among families and encourage them to engage in Jewish life, programming, or learning. In the past, Get Together grants have been used for Shabbat-themed experiences, baking or crafts, book clubs, and parent-only evenings. Get Togethers happen when families want to experience them, and how they want to experience them.

Charleston PJ Library is a partnership between the Harold Grinspoon Foundation and the Charleston Jewish Federation. The generosity of local philanthropists makes it possible for children to receive the gift of music and books each month. Charleston PJ Library is an investment in our Jewish future and is made possible through the generous support of local donors, including:

Linda and David Cohen
Ellen and Harry Nadler
Herb Rosner
Gina and Sam Shapiro, in honor of Freddie and Milton Kronsberg (OBM)
Julie and Stephen Ziff
Anita Zucker

Harold Grinspoon Foundation’s PJ Library offers free Jewish books and programs to more than 125,000 families around the world. As part of a strategy to expand Jewish engagement in the US and Canada, the Get Together grants are funded through the PJ Library Alliance. Partners in the Alliance include the Harold Grinspoon Foundation, the William Davidson Foundation, the Marcus Foundation, Inc., the Jim Joseph Foundation, the William & Audrey Farber Philanthropic Fund; the Diane & Guilford Glazer/Jewish Community Foundation of LA, Carl & Joann Bianco, the Howard & Geraldine Polinger Family Foundation, the Susser Family Trust, Walter, Arnee, Sarah & Aaron Winshall, and two anonymous partners.

PJ Library and PJ Our Way families currently living in Charleston are invited to apply to host a Get Together. Applications open on Monday, May 22nd and close Friday, June 30th.
