Each year, local city and county councils issue Proclamations that commemorate the Holocaust and honor Holocaust victims. 11 million innocent souls were murdered, 6 million of them were Jews. In very moving ceremonies, a member of the Council reads a Proclamation, followed by a candle lighting ceremony. In Summerville, the Proclamation reading at Town Hall Chambers, 3rd floor, will be followed by a short silent candlelight walk to the Jewish Heritage Marker on Short Central next to Art Central where the candelighting program will take place. It is crucial for everyone to support these proclamations by attending the council meetings at which the proclamation is read.
