Teach your child to care for others by giving a Chanukah gift instead of receiving one.
This program is a way to bring the gift of tzedakah into the holiday, and make it meaningful. The goal is to encourage Jewish families with school-age children to begin dedicating the eight night of Chanukah for charity–to skip the gifts for their children and instead teach them the importance of giving to those in need. The project asks parents to go with their child(ren) to the store to select a toy or book that they think another child would enjoy and donate it to an organization for less fortunate children.
At this program, the families will bring their gift, we'll light Chanukah candles, sing songs and read stories.
Co-sponsored by PJ Library, Charleston Jewish Family Services and the Ronald McDonald House of Charleston.
