Temple Sinai Jewish History Center, a part of the Sumter County Museum is thrilled to host Kugels and Collards Kugels and Collards with co-founders Rachel Barnett and Lyssa Harvey. This talk and Q&A session will be on Thursday, August 19th at 6:00pm.
Kugels and Collards started as a blog in conjunction with Historic Columbia's Columbia Jewish Heritage Initiative. Barnett and Harvey are now working on a book entitled Kugels & Collards, A Jewish Culinary Journey through South Carolina that is set to be published by USC Press in 2023. They've collected recipes and family "food stories" from Jewish families throughout the state including several in Sumter. A reception with refreshments will follow the talk featuring a couple of these recipes from the Sumter area! The Temple Sinai Jewish History Center's exhibits will also be open for viewing during the reception including the traveling exhibit from the Museum of Jewish People called Is it Kosher?: Cooking, Eating, and Selling Jewish and Israeli Food (which closes on August 21st). This event is free and open to the public.
