Meet Andrew Ridker!
The Altruists is a hugely funny and heartbreaking novel that NPR has called an unusually promising debut. It's a vibrant and perceptive novel about a father's plot to win back his children's inheritance. In the novel Arthur Alter is in trouble. He's a middling professor at a Midwestern college who can't afford his mortgage. He invites his children back to St. Louis under the guise of a reconciliation but unwittingly unleashes a Pandora's box of age-old resentments. Spanning NY, Paris, Boston, St. Louis and a small desert outpost in Zimbabwe, The Altruists is a razor sharp, darkly funny family saga from a new talent.
Andrew Ridker grew up outside of Boston. He attended Washington University in St. Louis, spent a year at Oxford, and now lives in Brooklyn. His first novel, The Altruists, was a New York Times Editor's Choice and was published in 18 countries
