The first in a new Annual Concert Series, sponsored in memory of Nathan B. and Marjorie D. Kogan, Judas Maccabaeus is an oratorio in three parts, featuring Baroque orchestra, choir, and soloists.
Composed in 1746, Judas Maccabaeus was one of Handel's most popular oratorios. Based on the deuterocanonical book I Maccabees, this magnificent work follows the story of Judas Maccabaeus and struggle and ultimate victory of the Jewish people over the oppression of the Seleucid Empire - from the mourning of the fallen leader Matthathias to the trimphant rise of Judas Maccabaeus and the alliance with Rome that brings peace, Judas Maccabaeus is filled from beginning to end with beautiful music, wonderful characters, and stirring choruses - it's a monumental work that Charleston audiences won't want to miss!
The Kings Counterpoint is excited to welcome back our very special guests, The North Carolina Baroque Chamber Orchestra!
