Hear acclaimed novelist Gary Shteyngart read from his candid, witty, and deeply poignant new memoir, Little Failure. Shteyngart was born in Leningrad in 1972 and came to the United States seven years later. His decision at age five to become a writer led his disappointed mother to dub him Failurchka, an English/Russian fusion meaning “little failure.” The memoir depicts his immigrant experience with self-deprecating humor, moving insight, and literary bravado. Shteyngart is the author of Super Sad True Love Story, The Russian Debutante’s Handbook, and Absurdistan, which was chosen as one of the ten best books of the year by the New York Times Book Review and Time. He was named a Granta Best Young American Novelist and a New Yorker Best Writer Under Forty. He is recipient of the Stephen Crane Award for First Fiction and the National Jewish Book Award for Fiction. His work has appeared in The New Yorker, Esquire, GQ, and Travel + Leisure and his books have been translated into more than twenty languages. He lives in New York City.
